The most important rule for most strength-training exercises is to exhale as soon as you feel exertion. For instance, if you’re performing a squat, you’ll slowly inhale as you go down and slowly exhale as you come back up.
Exhale as you lift the weight for a curl, then inhale as you bring it back down.
You won’t be able to get much out of your exercise if you’re not getting enough oxygen, which will make you feel out of breath and make you tire quickly.
